What is all the buzz about Common?  Yes he is a Rapper (more eloquent a Hip-Hop artist), Yes he was invited to the White House, and yes he has been quoted as saying some controversial things.  Hello everyone, he is an entertainer, hello he is as everyone an opinionated human, The white house has had a history of controversial high profile figures that have been invited to the White House.  The point here is to attempt to understand… What is the point?  We have become so comfortable with the concept of raining on someone else parade in light  of securing our own sunshine.  As I have analyzed Common’s career here is an individual who has been dedicated and committed to developing a very respectable career. In looking at his body of work and lyrical content, it is predominantly positive, progressive and uplifting. Tagging his lyrics as controversial is like looking at a beautifully preserved Chevy classic to find one spec of dust to later call it dirty.
